ISMA adds communications manager, policy analyst
ISMA is pleased to announce that Eric Berman, former state government and politics reporter for WIBC radio in Indianapolis, has joined the ISMA as communications manager. In addition, Jake Torrie has joined ISMA as policy analyst; most recently, he was a legislative assistant with the Indiana Senate Republican Caucus.

Eric Berman will work as part of the Membership and Marketing team with a focus on government relations communications and relaying legislative insight to members. After receiving his degree in journalism from Indiana University, he was a reporter for radio stations in Kokomo and Fort Wayne. Eric spent 28 years at the statewide radio wire service Network Indiana and WIBC, its flagship station.

With the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Eric’s main coverage areas expanded from state government and politics to encompass a multitude of issues relating to COVID-19 and, eventually, to other health issues as well. He is excited to join ISMA and to be involved more directly in making Hoosiers healthier.

Fans of “Jeopardy!” may remember Eric as a four-day winner in 1987 and a semifinalist in the show’s Tournament of Champions.

Before joining ISMA’s Government Relations team, Jake Torrie was legislative assistant for Sen. Dennis Kruse (R-Auburn) and Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond), having been hired following an internship with the Senate Majority Caucus during his last semester at Franklin College. Jake, who holds a bachelor’s degree in political science, has interned and volunteered with several campaigns in Central Indiana. He is excited to join an organization that helps doctors to excel in their profession as well as to improve the lives of Hoosiers.
