Attend Convention next weekend
The 175th Annual ISMA Convention is next week, so now is the time to register if you haven’t yet!

All Indiana State Medical Association members are invited to attend the 175th Annual ISMA Convention from Sept. 6-8 at the Embassy Suites in Plainfield. The centerpiece of the convention is the annual meeting of the ISMA House of Delegates (HOD), when representatives from around the state discuss and vote on resolutions. Adopted resolutions become part of ISMA policy and set the organization’s legislative agenda.

Day-by-day highlights
Friday, Sept. 6: Kicking off Convention weekend is ISMA’s inaugural Physician Wellness Symposium, which will empower physicians with practical tools, insights, and strategies to cultivate resilience, find balance, and rediscover the joy in their noble profession. In addition to nationally recognized speakers, the all-day programming will include a special interactive panel discussion with physician wellness leaders from across the state and other interactive sessions. Later that evening, the IMPAC Social, which is open to IMPAC donors only, is set for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., Indiana political analysts Brian Howey, Robert Vane and Jennifer Wagner will offer insights into this year’s elections during a Q&A with ISMA Communications Manager Eric Berman. Because the Physician Wellness Symposium is open to nonmembers, if you plan to attend BOTH the Convention and the symposium, you must sign up for each separately. Register for the symposium at www.ismanet.org/PhysicianWellnessSymposium.

Saturday, Sept. 7: The first House of Delegates (HOD) session will begin at 8 a.m. Highlights will include remarks by ISMA President David R. Diaz, MD; IMPAC Board member Michael Hoover, MD; and videotaped remarks from Gov. Eric Holcomb. Reference committees will meet consecutively beginning at 9 a.m. to hear testimony on resolutions. The President’s Night reception and dinner begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 8: The HOD will reconvene at 9 a.m. to vote on reference committee report recommendations. Other highlights include the election of ISMA officers and AMA delegation members; remarks from AMA President Bruce Scott, MD; an address by incoming ISMA President William Pond, MD; and swearing-in of trustees, officers and AMA delegation members.

Convention app returning in 2024
The ISMA Convention app – your indispensable guide to ISMA convention weekend activities – will soon be available for download for #ISMAcon24!

As before, the app will include:
  • Hotel floor plan
  • Convention agenda
  • Candidate bios
  • Important documents, including the House of Delegates Handbook and Supplemental Handbook, ISMA Pulse feedback summaries, and Reference Committee Reports, when available Saturday.
The Convention Challenge is also returning this year. The three players who tally the most points in the game by completing challenges during Convention will receive special prizes at the conclusion of Sunday’s House of Delegates meeting. (You must be present to collect your prize.)

ISMA will email all Convention registrants when the app is ready for download during the week of Convention.

Reminder on handbooks
During the 174th Annual Convention in September, the Board of Trustees (BOT) announced ISMA would no longer print handbooks starting in 2024. As in years past, the full handbook components and, if needed, supplemental handbook will be available for free download electronically on ISMA’s website and via the convention app. Attendees can purchase a printed handbook online from a local copy shop partnering with ISMA and have it ready for them to pick up at registration. The link to order and pay for printed copies of the handbook will be shared in the registration confirmation email and on the ISMA convention web pages.
