Indiana reports another measles case
The Putnam County Health Department announced a confirmed case of measles. Until now, Indiana’s only confirmed measles cases were in Allen County. Statewide totals for the measles now rest at nine cases.

The U.S. has reported 1,288 measles cases this year — the most since 1992, eight years before the disease was declared eliminated in the country. Thirty-eight states have reported measles cases: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

According to the CDC, the 2025 measles resurgence is largely due to declines in vaccination coverage, particularly in communities with high levels of vaccine hesitancy and misinformation.

The American Medical Association advises physicians to “address vaccine concerns with empathy, using simple, evidence-based language to support informed decision-making.”
