IHCP update: Telehealth codes, treating OUD in EDs, claims reprocessing
The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) has published its Final 2022 Telehealth and Virtual Services Code Set, effective for dates of service on and after July 21. The release of the code set by the providers of Indiana’s Medicaid services follows a monthslong review of feedback on a proposed code set. Other IHCP updates of note add coverage for treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) in emergency departments and announce the reprocessing of outpatient crossover codes that denied incorrectly.

In the new code set for telehealth and virtual services, announced in Bulletin 202239, reimbursable codes are listed in three categories: (1) telehealth medical services; (2) non-health care virtual services; and (3) telehealth dental services. Some codes are reimbursable through audio-only delivery; all other codes require delivery through video and audio telehealth modalities.

The bulletin includes special billing guidance for federally qualified health center (FQHC) and rural health clinic (RHC) providers and for providers of intensive outpatient treatment (IOT) services. For full details, read the six-page bulletin
