Good-faith cost estimate requirement takes effect July 1
As reported previously, the Indiana General Assembly passed several measures related to health care costs, transparency and patient protections in 2020. One requires that all health care practitioners provide a good faith estimate of the total price they will charge for a nonemergency health care service upon a patient’s request. The law takes effect July 1, and ISMA has created several documents to help members comply with the requirement.

These resources include:
  • Practitioner Good Faith Estimates Guidance
  • Practitioner Good Faith Estimates Decision Tree
  • HEA 1004 (text of the enacted legislation).
