ISMA represents at AMA Annual Meeting
The American Medical Association (AMA) Annual House of Delegates (HOD) Meeting in Chicago was attended by ISMA’s 10 delegates. In addition, other representatives from MSS, RFS, and YPS also attended.

One of the hottest topics of the meeting was fixing prior authorization. On the heels of an AMA survey, which showed that only one in three doctors expect meaningful impact to come from the pledges that insurers made to reform the system, delegates voted to take more steps to hold companies responsible and get patients the care they need. AMA HOD adopted policies that aim to reduce delays and ensure that there is full transparency when augmented intelligence (AI) is used.

The newly inaugurated 181st president of the AMA, Willie Underwood III, MD, MSc, MPH, also spoke of the foundational problems in America’s health care system. Dr. Underwood said that while the medical profession is not responsible for all the problems that plague the provision and delivery of care in the U.S., the onus to address these challenges falls on the AMA and physician leaders across the country.

At the meeting, David Welsh, MD, served on the AMA Board of Trustees. ISMA President and AMA Alternate Delegate Ryan Singerman, DO, served on the reference committee for ethics and bylaws. ISMA Vice Speaker Tashera Perry testified before the HOD. ISMA AMA Delegation Chair Heidi Dunniway, MD, also attended meetings for the Great Lakes States Coalition. YPS representative Dan Udrea, MD, was elected as the next AMA YPS Chair Elect.

Thank you to all the physicians and students that attended the meeting and did their part to advance health care in Indiana for physicians and their patients.
