The ISMA has joined the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in a letter urging U.S. House leaders to strongly reject H.R. 1587, proposed legislation that would inappropriately grant audiologists direct access to Medicare patients. 
 
The “Medicare Audiologist Access and Services Act of 2021” would give audiologists unlimited direct access to Medicare patients without a physician referral and would amend the Social Security Act to label audiologists as practitioners.
