ISMA, Medical Practice Consortium offer insureds early premium holidays
ISMA Insurance Agency (ISMAIA) recently communicated to subscribers participating in the ISMA-sponsored Anthem individual (non-Medicare) health insurance plan regarding a one-month premium holiday previously planned for late 2020. To help provide some immediate financial relief for subscribers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the default month of the premium holiday has been moved up to July for anyone who hasn’t already paid July premiums. Furthermore, subscribers who have not yet paid premiums for June can use their premium holiday for that month by emailing ISMAIA at ismaia@ismanet.org and making that request as soon as possible.

ISMAIA also recently announced to medical practices with Anthem group health insurance through the Medical Practice Consortium (MPC) that the MPC board has given them the immediate choice to take early a one-month premium holiday previously planned for the second half of 2020. Participating employers that decide to exercise this option should email ISMA Insurance Agency at ismaia@ismanet.org, stating which month of premiums they would like waived. At least 30 days’ notice prior to the start of that month is required.

Practices that don’t take the one-month premium holiday early will still receive it sometime during the second half of 2020 as initially planned. The timing and details will be communicated later in the year.

Please note: Medical practices participating in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) may want to carefully consider the timing of the premium holiday to maximize the benefits of both the PPP and the premium holiday.
