Danny Luong named ISMA Future Physician Leader
Phi (Danny) Luong has been named the 2022 ISMA Future Physician Leader for Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM). ISMA President Elizabeth Struble, MD, presented the award during a MU-COM reception in Indianapolis on May 3.

The Future Physician Leader Award was established in 2017 to recognize medical school graduates who have demonstrated a positive vision for organized medicine and enthusiastically contributed to that vision. Recipients are dedicated to maximizing the leadership and impact of physicians in their personal, professional and community lives. Other qualities recognized with the award include compassion, respect and a focus on collaboration through advocacy, education and mentoring.

The annual award honors one graduate at each of Indiana’s two medical schools. The 2022 Future Physician Leader for Indiana University School of Medicine will be announced May 12.

Luong majored in biology at Stanford University as an undergraduate, with an emphasis on neuroscience. During medical school, he served the ISMA Medical Student Society in several leadership roles, including as president and as vice president of administration.

He also represented the ISMA Medical Student Society on the ISMA Commission on Legislation and the House of Delegates.

In addition, Luong was awarded an ISMA Health Policy Fellowship to work with the ISMA Government Relations team as a rising second-year medical student. The position is part of the Health Policy Fellowship Initiative, a national organization with the mission of promoting health policy and advocacy, and requires completion of an online curriculum in health economics, health policy, public policy and government relations.

After graduation, Luong will begin his residency in psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
