Match Day 2025 was the largest in National Resident Matching Program’s (NRMP) 73-year history, with 43,237 students being matched nationwide, a matching rate of 94.3 percent. Nearly 500 fourth-year medical students from the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and Marian University’s Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM) celebrated successful matches.
IUSM matched 341 medical students (98%), and MU-WCOM placed 143 (100%) students. In addition, more than 300 students from out of state will come to IU for their residencies. Last year, IUSM matched 338 of 345 medical students (98%), and MU-COM placed 141 of 142 (99%) students.
"Every single one of you is a success story. No matter what specialty, and wherever you're matching, you're going to be a doctor — and a great doctor," said Jay L. Hess, MD, PhD, MHSA, executive vice president for university clinical affairs at IU and dean of the IU School of Medicine.
IUSM’s class of 2025 matched with training programs across 38 states. Of the 341 matched, 90 will enter IU School of Medicine residency programs, with another 19 completing their residencies elsewhere in Indiana.
“I know this amazing program and the people in it well,” Quinn Kaurich, who matched into IU’s internal medicine residency, said. “I was born and raised in Indiana. I love serving its people.”
Of the 143 MU-WCOM students, 63, or 44 percent, will train in Indiana. Four will enter the U.S. Military Health Professions Scholarship Program. The remainder will train in neighboring states.
This year NRMP welcomed two new specialties to the Match: Public Health and Preventive Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Medicine. In all, the 2025 Main Residency Match included 6,626 certified program tracks, an all-time high and an increase of 231 programs over last year.
