As morbidity and mortality rates from opioid use have increased, so have hospital admissions. Hospitalization is a reachable moment and an important opportunity to increase access to opioid use disorder (OUD) management, treatment, and harm reduction for patients. Inpatient acute care environments are uniquely positioned to help patients with substance use disorders during hospitalization. This session by Amy LaHood, MD, Family Medicine Specialist at Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, will help providers leverage a patient’s time in the hospital setting to address OUD.

Meet your MATE Act requirements
Section 1263 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, also known as the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act, necessitates ALL DEA-registered practitioners who prescribe schedule II, III, IV or V drugs undergo a one-time, eight-hour training requirement incorporating education on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

This CME, as well as the others in the opioid series, can count toward the new requirement.

Twenty archived hours of qualifying opioid-related CME are already available on-demand FREE for members via the ISMA Online app, and we’ve created an FAQ to address common questions related to the act.
