ISMA leader appointed to AMA Council on Legislation
Dr. Elizabeth Struble, MD, of North Manchester, has been appointed by the American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees to the AMA Council on Legislation.

Dr. Struble, a family physician, previously served as ISMA President, Chair of the Board and currently serves as the Chair of the Commission on Legislation and Chair of the Statewide Physician Wellness Coalition.

"I have had the privilege to be involved in leadership with the ISMA for many years, culminating in my current work as chair of the Commission on Legislation," Dr. Struble said. "The association has helped me to develop leadership skills and given me the experience that allowed me to achieve this new honor as a member of the AMA Council on Legislation."

Dr. Struble joined ISMA in 2009 as a medical resident. She now practices family medicine at Walnut Street Family Medicine in North Manchester.

"I believe one of the most important functions of organized medicine is advocacy for our patients and all physicians," Dr. Struble said. "I am excited to expand my involvement from the state level to the national stage with this new appointment."

Dr. Stuble testified several times before the General Assembly this legislative session. ISMA Vice President of Government Affairs John Ruckelshaus cited her testimony on HB 1555 (Licensure of foreign-trained physicians), SB 480 (Prior authorization), and HB 1666 (Ownership of health care providers) as particularly impactful.

"Having strong physician leaders helps strengthen the effectiveness of our organization," ISMA Executive Vice President Julie Reed, JD, said. "We all help in big and small, direct and indirect ways to support our physician leaders - by helping keep them well-informed, by giving them opportunities to lead, and by helping them shine.  We all make each other better. This is the latest example."
