Meet ISMA Director of Communications Steve Cooke
My name is Steve Cooke, and I’m excited to join ISMA as director of communications with the Membership and Marketing team. In this role, I will develop strategic communication plans and lead PR initiatives focusing on key areas, while working closely with the ISMA Government Relations team to maximize the impact of physicians.

Previously, I was vice president of Bose Public Affairs Group, where I provided strategic communications services for clients that included the Indiana Hospital Association, Indiana Blood Center (now Versiti) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). I’ve worked on a wide range of issues using strategies in PR, social media and stakeholder engagement.

I left Bose in 2016 to serve the city of Noblesville as deputy mayor, leading efforts in community and economic development and public safety. I also oversaw our consultants for state and federal government relations. Working closely with the police, the fire department and our schools opened my eyes to the need for greater mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Originally from Flint, Mich., I earned my bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University. During my undergraduate studies, I worked part time for the MSU School of Osteopathic Medicine. Later in my career, I earned my master’s degree from IUPUI, studying public relations management with a focus on health care.

On the home front, I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Marnie, who also works in PR. We have two daughters: Jillian,15, enjoys performing in show choir and playing soccer and is interested in a career in law; and Shelby, 11, enjoys ballet/dance, choir and drama club and hopes to someday become a physician.

In my free time, I enjoy creative writing, reading, watching soccer or simply being outdoors.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone and contributing to achieving ISMA’s vision!
