ISMA Past President William Cooper, MD, dies
William Cooper, MD, a Columbus otolaryngologist who served ISMA as president and in several other positions, died Jan. 24. He was 89.

Dr. Cooper grew up in Seymour and earned two undergraduate degrees and his medical degree from Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations and in Civil Engineering, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Dr. Cooper served ISMA as speaker and was president in 1995. He also was 4th District trustee, chair of the ISMA Board of Trustees and an alternate delegate to the AMA. In addition, Dr. Cooper served as treasurer and president of the Bartholomew-Brown County Medical Society and president of the Indiana Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. 

A memorial service will take place Saturday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 330 8th St., Columbus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ALS Association in honor of Dr. William E. Cooper.
