District 2 trustee to speak at FIRM conference
ISMA District 2 Trustee Jane Bridges, MD, will co-lead a breakout session at the 2023 Finding Inspiration and Resilience in Medicine (FIRM) conference. Dr. Bridges has led many workshops on physician burnout, including a CME webinar for ISMA in February, called “Physician Wellness: A Path to Reconnection.”

ISMA is a sponsor of the conference, set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET Jan. 13 at the William K. Nasser Health Care Education and Simulation Center in Indianapolis. The theme will be “Bent but Not Broken: Overcoming Adversity and Cultivating Resilience.” According to FIRM’s EventBrite page, the theme “aims to normalize that hard times are a ‘when’ not ‘if’ in life, and that failure is a natural part of life.”

“The goal of FIRM is to have important conversations regarding physician burnout, physician resilience, and physician well-being,” said MSS member and FIRM Fundraising Chair Nicolette Monacelli. That closely aligns with a guiding principle of ISMA – that physician well-being and fulfillment must be priorities in health care environments.

The annual conference is planned and presented by students at the IU School of Medicine and the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. It typically draws around 250 medical students, residents and physicians, and there is no charge to attend.
