IDOH corrects its guidance for lead screening, testing, reporting in kids
The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) has released a corrected version of its “Universal Lead Testing and Reporting Guidance,” which it issued last month to help health care practitioners comply with a new law that will take effect Jan. 1.

The new law requires physicians and nonphysician health care professionals to confirm that children have been tested for lead and, if they have not, to offer this testing to the child’s parent or guardian. IDOH’s original guidance incorrectly stated the time period during which lead testing at year 1 could be done. The correct range for year-1 lead testing in children is 9 months to 15 months of age.
