Trauma-informed care (TIC) provides guiding principles to effectively put kindness into action when responding to the psychosocial effects of trauma by creating ways to deliver appropriately sensitive services to those affected by trauma and to nurture their resilience. TIC anticipates the role that trauma can play across the continuum of care—establishing integrated and/or collaborative processes to address the needs of traumatized individuals and communities proactively.

Self-care practices remind physicians to take care of the fundamental tool for their work: themselves. Engaging in self-care practices is an opportunity to role-model the self-respect, healthy boundaries, and social-emotional skills physicians try to teach the people and communities they serve. In this session, Shannon Jones, MD, chief medical officer of Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, will address the role of TIC in modern health care.

This webinar is sponsored by the ISMA Women in Medicine Committee but is open to all members.
