The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reopened the 2023 MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) hardship exception last month due to the Change Healthcare cyberattack earlier this year. MIPS-eligible clinicians and groups have until TOMORROW, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. to apply for an EUC and to request the reweighting of up to four MIPS performance categories because of the disruptions due to the cyberattack. Any applications submitted for reasons unrelated to the Change Healthcare cyberattack will be denied, per CMS.

Due to technical limitations, CMS is unable to reopen the PY 2023 MIPS EUC Exception Application form in its system, while the PY 2024 MIPS EUC Exception Application is open. Due to this, CMS is allowing PY 2023 reweighting requests to be submitted through the MIPS Targeted Review form on its website. You can access this form and learn more by signing in here.
