Program description:

In this session, an experienced health care attorney will provide an update on the most recent Indiana laws related to prescribing controlled substances, including the new law on electronic prescribing, which goes into effect Jan. 1.

Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify the most recent Indiana Laws on prescribing controlled substances.
  • Understand the requirements in the new Indiana law on electronic prescribing for controlled substances.
  • Identify when INSPECT must be queried.

About the speaker:

Stacy Cook, JD, LLM, is a partner in the Health Care Department and a member of the Data Security and Privacy Practice Group at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. She concentrates her practice on regulatory issues for health care providers, including fraud and abuse laws, billing and reimbursement, HIPAA compliance and related litigation matters. Cook was an associate and partner at Barnes & Thornburg for more than 10 years before returning in June 2018 after almost two and a half years as ISMA general counsel. Cook represents health care providers before state and federal regulatory agencies, including the Indiana Medical Licensing Board, and assists clients in responding to privacy and security breaches, government investigations and audits, repayment inquiries and internal audits. She advises clients in virtually all aspects of HIPAA compliance. Cook is a member of the American Society of Medical Association Counsel, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indiana Security and Privacy Network.
