ISMA is offering a two-part webinar series on caring for refugees in Indiana.
The webinars reflect ISMA Resolution 24-020, which promotes mental health initiatives for refugees.
Program description:
This presentation will explore the unique mental health needs of refugees and the barriers that currently limit their access to care.
Objectives:
At the end of this live webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Apply evidence-based practices to address the mental health needs of refugees, ensuring patient-centered and trauma-informed care.
- Recognize the barriers to accessing mental health care for refugees, such as cultural differences, language barriers, stigma, and systemic limitations in healthcare systems.

About the speaker:
Erin Aquino first joined the staff of Exodus in 2014, serving in a variety of roles until 2019, when she left Indiana to pursue her Master of Social Work degree. Erin has extensive experience working with international populations. She served in the Peace Corps in Senegal from 2011 to 2013, and from 2019 to 2021, while earning her master’s degree, she served asylum seekers on the U.S. border. Erin is a clinical therapist and has served as the Exodus Refugee Bloomington Resettlement Director since returning to Indiana in early 2022.
