Program description:
John Ruckelshaus, ISMA vice president of government affairs, and Luke McNamee, ISMA deputy director of policy, will provide an overview of the 2022 session of the Indiana General Assembly and highlight the bills that impact physicians and medical practices.
Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Perceive the state legislative process.
- Comprehend Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 239 and health care license transparency.
- Discern scope-of-practice positioning in the Indiana legislature.

About our speakers:
John Ruckelshaus, former Indiana state Senator, joined ISMA in October 2021 as vice president of government affairs. Ruckelshaus served District 30 of the Indiana Senate from 2016 to 2020 as the ranking member of the Health and Provider Services Committee and a member of the Senate committees on Insurance and Financial Institutions and Environmental Affairs. He also served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1990 to 1992, where he was a member of the House Public Health Committee. Most recently, Ruckelshaus worked for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) as director of talent fulfillment. He previously served as director of business development at Van Ausdall and Farrar and as a consultant for American Health and Wellness. Earlier in his career, Ruckelshaus was deputy commissioner at the Indiana Department of Workforce Development under Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Luke McNamee joined ISMA’s Government Relations team in October 2019 as deputy director of policy. Previously, he was policy director at the Institute for Quality Education in Indianapolis and worked as a legislative assistant at the Indiana House of Representatives and an intern to Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma. McNamee is a fourth-year student at IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law and a cum laude graduate of Ball State University with a degree in public and applied history.
