Program description:

Attending medical school is a serious financial investment. It’s a decision many students make because they have a personal calling to become a physician. Medical school is expensive, but, with a little studying and planning, you can limit the educational costs and minimize your debt.

The large amount of information about debt management and personal finance can feel overwhelming to learn and apply. And, the cost of medical school continues to rise, increasing the average amount of loans for medical school. It is no surprise that debt is a common source of stress among medical students, residents and new physicians.

However, there are many reasons to be confident about your future. It is rare for physicians to default on their educational loans, even though many carry six-figure debts. Physician salaries in every specialty are among the highest in the world. You can afford to pay for medical school and pursue the specialty of your choice.

One of the most important steps toward financial success is to navigate available student loan repayment and forgiveness programs strategically. That’s easier said than done, however, as these programs are complex and continually evolving. In this session, we look at the best approach for managing student loans and other personal debt.

Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Compare loan repayment options.
  • Distinguish how different loan repayment strategies coincide with savings goals.
  • Comprehend variables related to student debt to consider when filing taxes.
  • Identify advantages and disadvantages of refinancing and how to find the lowest rate, while still having an affordable payment.
  • Recognize how current and proposed legislation affects borrowers in various career stages.
