Program description:

Evaluation and Management (E/M) documentation guidelines for office and outpatient visits went into effect Jan. 1, 2021. This is the biggest change in E/M coding and documentation since the 1995 and 1997 guidelines were published. Now that you have started using the new guidelines, what questions do you have? Are you comfortable with the new definitions? Are you having trouble counting the data points? 

In this session, we will give a brief overview* of the new guidelines for coding based on time or medical decision making. We will go through five case scenarios from different specialties and calculate the code levels together. There will also be time for questions and answers, beginning with questions that are submitted prior to the session.

About the speaker:

Carol Hoppe is a dynamic speaker who has been in health care for more than 25 years and has worked with many specialty practitioners and primary care physicians. She has extensive hands-on practice experience in transcription, billing, collections, medical office management and consulting services, and she provides billing, coding and compliance audits and education for physicians and staff. She worked as a consultant, instructor and director of billing, coding and credentialing for a 500+ physician/hospital system in Indianapolis before starting her consulting business in 2011.
