Program description:

Developing core leadership competencies can strengthen your resilience as a physician, improve how you manage time and stress, and increase your workflow efficiency. ISMA is committed to helping members develop these and other skills they need to thrive professionally in today’s health care environment, regardless of the type or size of their organization.

Starting in February, ISMA will offer “Leading Well in Today’s Health Care Environment,” a 12-week physician leadership series presented in conjunction with the Washington State Medical Association. This virtual series, led by Edward A. Walker, MD, MHA, of the University of Washington and the Washington State Medical Association Center for Leadership Development, is being offered at a 90% discount thanks to a grant from the Physicians Foundation. The series will combine live and online sessions so you can learn at your own convenience.

Please note: You must be an ISMA physician member to take part in this series. If you are not a member, you can learn about the many benefits of ISMA membership and join ISMA by visiting ismanet.org.

Requirements for successful completion of this series include the following.

Attendance at three virtual daylong sessions with Dr. Walker:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 22, and Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. There will be a one-hour lunch break and several other breaks.
  • Tuesday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

Weekly virtual communication within your designated small group:

  • Topics will be posted weekly from late February through mid-May. You may read any assigned articles or posts and comment on them at your own convenience. Assignments will be posted on Fridays and will be due by the following Friday.

Personal coaching option:
  • After successful completion of all workshop sessions and online assignments, you will be invited to schedule an optional one-hour, follow-up coaching session with Dr. Walker.
