Program description:

As Indiana schools reopen, physicians are an important resource for helping patients and their families protect themselves against COVID-19. In this webinar, Lindsay Weaver, MD, chief medical officer for the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), will discuss COVID-19 testing guidelines and current gaps in testing practices, as well as the difference between quarantine and isolation and the recommendations for each. She’ll also talk about why it’s important for children’s vaccinations to remain current and what physicians can do now to prepare for when a vaccine becomes available. Please note: CME is NOT being offered for this webinar.

Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify current gaps in COVID testing practices.
  • Describe the appropriate recommendations for quarantine versus isolation and the difference between them.
  • Explain the importance of keeping children up-to-date on vaccinations, including for influenza.
  • Demonstrate steps to prepare for future COVID vaccines.

About the speaker:

Lindsay Weaver, MD, joined ISDH as chief medical officer on Feb. 3, 2020. Dr. Weaver is an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and practices emergency medicine at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She is board certified in emergency medicine and hospice and palliative care medicine.  

Dr. Weaver earned her undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Kentucky and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed residency training in emergency medicine and fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. She also completed a fellowship in ethics at the Charles Warren Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics at IU Health.

Dr. Weaver has served as quality director for the department of emergency medicine and physician lead for the system sepsis steering committee at IU Health. She also served as executive director for the Indiana Patient Preference Coalition and as president of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Emergency Medicine Physicians.
