About the Speaker:  

Dr. Mackie, who leads the Integrative Pain Program (IPP) at Eskenazi Health, has largely focused on chronic pain and recovery over the past decade.  The IPP integrates psychological and physical functional rehabilitation and uses each patient's strengths, life values and goals, while its five-week Pain School teaches patients to make healthier choices through alternative approaches.  During each 90-minute Pain School session, patients' efforts and energy are directed toward making progress and improving self-efficacy through achieving reasonable, life-enhancing goals. 

Learning Objectives:

After the end of this webinar participants will be able to do the following: 

  1. Understand data showing that patients functino better when fewer opioids are used. 
  2. Validate alternative methods to address chronic pain.
  3. Understand improvements in pain and function achieved with alternative pain management methods.
  4. Describe the importance of the Three E’s:  empathy, education and engagement in working with patients who have chronic pain.
  5. Explain why patient participation is integrative pain management methods is critical to outcomes.
