ISMA elects physician officers, AMA delegation members

(PLAINFIELD, Ind.) – The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) elected its officers and American Medical Association (AMA) delegation members at its 175th Annual Convention, held Sept. 6-8, 2024. 

William Pond, MD, Fort Wayne, was sworn in as ISMA president for 2024-2025, while Ryan Singerman, DO, also of Fort Wayne, was chosen by acclamation as ISMA president-elect.

Dr. Pond is an anesthesiologist in Fort Wayne. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and zoology from Butler University, and his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. An ISMA member since 1991, Dr. Pond has served as the association’s treasurer and assistant treasurer, and as a member of the ISMA Commission on Legislation. Dr. Pond is a colonel in the Indiana Air National Guard.

Dr. Singerman will become ISMA president in September 2025. Dr. Singerman is a family physician with a specialty in obesity medicine, and is the primary care section chief and medical director of weight and bariatric medicine at Parkview Health in Fort Wayne. He earned his medical degree from Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine, and has been an ISMA member since 2011. Dr. Singerman has chaired the ISMA Board of Trustees since 2022.

Other ISMA officers sworn in for one-year terms include the following: Speaker of the House of Delegates Andrew Trobridge, MD, Fishers; Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates Alexander Choi, MD, Zionsville; Treasurer Shalin Arnett, DO, Noblesville; and Assistant Treasurer Seung Sim, MD, Indianapolis.

Six members of ISMA’s delegation to the AMA were also sworn in. Elected as AMA Delegates are Rhonda Sharp, MD, LaGrange, and Vidya Kora, MD, Michigan City. Alternate Delegates are Tashera Perry, MD, Bloomington, and Lisa Hatcher, MD, Columbia City. AMA delegation members serve two-year terms and are elected on a staggered basis. In addition, Alternate Delegate Thomas Vidic, MD, Elkhart, was elected to serve the 15 months remaining in the delegate term of David Welsh, MD, Batesville, following Dr. Welsh’s recent election to the AMA Board of Trustees. Roberto Darroca, MD, Muncie, was elected to fill the Alternate Delegate vacancy created by Dr. Vidic’s election.
