Indiana State Medical Association Names Clif Knight, MD, as Executive Vice President
(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) announced Clif Knight, MD, CPE, FAAFP, will serve as the organization’s next executive vice president, beginning Monday, July 20.
Dr. Knight brings extensive leadership experience to the role, having served as an assistant dean at the Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM), senior vice president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and residency program director and hospital chief medical officer at Community Health Network in Indianapolis. Early in his career he practiced as a family physician in Flora, Indiana, primarily serving rural Carroll County.
“ISMA is incredibly fortunate to have a physician in the role of executive vice president,” ISMA Board President Sara Brown, MD, said. “Dr. Knight is a visionary leader who leads with kindness, transparency, and diligence. His deep understanding of health care and organized medicine, paired with his commitment to physicians, will help guide ISMA into its next chapter."
Dr. Knight has been a member of the ISMA for 36 years, serving in leadership roles representing District 7 as district president and on the board of trustees, in the association’s policy-making body the house of delegates, on the commission on physician assistance and on the physician wellness committee. He has advocated for legislation and educated physicians and students about the complex and ever-evolving policy issues facing today’s physicians and patients.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve the ISMA and our physicians in Indiana in this role,” Dr. Knight said. “I look forward to carrying out the strategies identified by our Board of Trustees as priorities for the physicians of Indiana.”
According to Dr. Knight, improving healthcare and health outcomes in Indiana requires a thriving physician workforce. He said he wants to help ISMA members thrive as they achieve their professional and personal goals.
The ISMA Board of Trustees expressed gratitude toward current Executive Vice President Julie Reed, JD, for her 23 years of service to the association and Indiana physicians as she steps away to spend more time with her family.
“Julie’s impact will be felt for years to come. She has built strong relationships throughout the medical community and just finished guiding the ISMA Board in the development of its recently approved strategic plan to help shape the organization’s future,” Dr. Brown said. “Her tireless dedication to ISMA and her unwavering commitment to supporting our members have been truly exemplary.”
