The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) is again proceeding with plans to replace its statewide reporting system for births, deaths and other vital events, according to a recent email to ISMA and other stakeholders.
The new electronic records system, Database Registration of Indiana’s Vital Events (DRIVE), will be used by every coroner, physician certifier, funeral home and local health department that plays a part in reporting deaths to ISDH.
The system is expected to increase operational efficiency and data quality by integrating several existing reporting systems. The birth and death reporting modules will be rolled out this fall, with other modules to follow in early 2021, ISDH said.
ISDH postponed plans for a new electronic vital records system last year after canceling a previous contract.
