CSR holders: Register with INSPECT by Jan. 1!
If you have an Indiana controlled substance registration (CSR), state law requires you to register with INSPECT by Tuesday, Jan. 1. Failure to register is a Class A misdemeanor.

ISMA will be actively pursuing a change to this requirement to remove the criminal penalty in the 2019 legislative session, which begins Jan. 3. Please stay tuned to upcoming issues of ISMA Reports and Legislative News to follow this effort and other legislative issues that may impact Hoosier physicians.

Again, registration with INSPECT is required for all Indiana CSR holders. Below are answers to two common questions we have received regarding this new requirement:

  • Even if you are retired or never write prescriptions for opioids or benzodiazepines, if you hold a CSR, you must register with INSPECT.
  • If you are already registered with INSPECT, no further action is required.
Before you begin the registration process, you will need to have these identifiers at hand: an individual email address, to which only you have access; CSR number; DEA number; medical license number; and driver’s license number.
