Law now requires INSPECT sign-ups for all CSR holders
As of Jan. 1, anyone who holds a controlled substance registration (CSR) in Indiana must be registered with INSPECT, Indiana’s prescription drug monitoring program. This applies to physician CSR holders even if they are retired or don’t anticipate prescribing any controlled substances.

In addition, CSR holders in hospital EDs and pain clinics must now query INSPECT before prescribing or dispensing any opioids or benzodiazepines. To learn more and for a link to register with INSPECT, visit the Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) website at www.in.gov/pla/inspect. Some ISMA members have reported difficulties in using this website. For technical assistance, contact PLA support at (844) 446-4767 or email inspect@pla.in.gov; someone will assist with account updates and password resets within 24 hours.

To learn more about these and other new INSPECT requirements, plan to attend ISMA’s free CME webinar Jan. 17.

Stacy L. Cook, JD, LLM, of Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, will give an update on Iaws regarding mandatory INSPECT registration and queries, as well as the new opioid CME requirement. Sign up at www.ismanet.org/ 2019OpioidWebinar1.
