AMPAC workshop helps physicians, advocates plan campaigns
The 2019 AMPAC Candidate Workshop is set for March 1-3 at the AMA office in Washington, D.C. The school is targeted to AMA members, their spouses, residents, medical students and medical society staff who want to learn more about what it takes to be an effective candidate. Registration closes Feb. 8, and space is limited.

The workshop is designed to help candidates make the leap from the exam room to the campaign trail and provide the skills and strategic approach needed to run for public office. Republican and Democratic political veterans share expert advice about politics and the sacrifices needed to mount a competitive campaign. Topics covered include how and when to make the decision to run; the importance of a disciplined campaign plan and message; the secrets of effective fundraising; what kinds of media advertising are right for a campaign; how to handle the crises that emerge for every campaign; the role of a candidate’s spouse and family; and how to become a better public speaker. Participants will find answers to their questions and determine whether they want to run for office.

AMPAC covers the cost of faculty, materials and all meals during the meeting. Participants are responsible for the registration fee ($250 for AMA members / $1,000 for non-members), airfare, and hotel accommodations at the Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill, where the AMA has secured a room block for a discounted rate.

Space for medical students and residents at the workshop is limited to four slots; the AMPAC Board will review and select qualified participants from the pool of resident and student applicants. The registration fee is waived for residents and students who are selected.
