Program Description:
Participants will learn how to develop a plan for compassionate weaning, ways to manage possible withdrawal symptoms and how to educate and engage the patient. The speakers will also discuss how St. Vincent Hospital Network has implemented and monitored a policy to limit opioid prescribing, as well as resources needed to support the policy, such as consultative education and weaning support.
Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
- Understand a hospital’s policy on opioid prescribing and what has enabled it to succeed
- Understand why it is appropriate to consider weaning a patient from opioid treatment when the associated risks begin to outweigh the benefits
- Identify tools and therapies useful in helping wean a patient from opioids
