ISMA’s annual CME workshop this year is designed to help physicians address the unique challenges they face as they navigate medical school, professional practice and personal finances. The three-part program is led by a trio of Indiana experts, who will cover essential financial topics for physicians, strategies for short-term and long-range financial planning, and strategies for negotiating employment contracts in today’s health care environment.

  • Peter Dunn (Pete the Planner®), will address how to solve financial challenges physicians typically face, including thought patterns and habits that sabotage true financial stability, predatory people and products, common mistakes with student loans and housing, lifestyle creep and more. He’ll do a SWOT analysis of a person's own financial standing and explain their Power Percentage®, a figure that can be used to determine whether they are financially healthy.
  • Tom Mayer, AIF®, a founding partner of Shepherd Financial Group, will focus on short-term and long-term financial planning and management for physicians, including creative ways to defer taxes and save enough to maintain their standard of living in retirement. He’ll also discuss how to reevaluate a financial plan when circumstances change, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Stacy L. Cook, JD, an attorney and partner with Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, will present strategies to successfully negotiate employment contracts, including ways physicians can influence contract provisions that are important to their individual needs.
