ISMA officers are elected at the annual House of Delegates meeting and serve one-year terms. Delegates and alternate delegates to the AMA serve two-year terms and are elected on a staggered basis.
To be eligible for ISMA officer or AMA delegation positions, a candidate must have been an active member of ISMA for the preceding two years.
Candidates may declare their intent to run for office any time before elections are held. Only candidates who have
submitted this form will be announced in ISMA Reports and on the ISMA website.
Nominations may be made at any session of the House of Delegates, so that nominations remain open until elections occur at the annual convention.
Vidic nominated to fill Welsh vacancy on Indiana AMA Delegation
In accordance with ISMA Bylaws, the members of the Indiana Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA) nominated AMA Alternate Delegate Tom Vidic, MD, to temporarily fill the vacancy created by the election of David Welsh, MD, to the AMA Board of Trustees. The ISMA House of Delegates had re-elected Dr. Welsh to a two-year term as an AMA Delegate in September 2023. That term was supposed to run from Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2025. Once Dr. Welsh was elected to the AMA Board of Trustees in June 2024, he had to resign from the Indiana Delegation. The nomination of Dr. Vidic is subject to confirmation by the ISMA Board of Trustees, which next meets on Sept. 6, 2024. If confirmed, Dr. Vidic will fill that AMA Delegate seat on an interim basis until the ISMA House of Delegates (HOD) elects someone to fill the vacancy, which will happen on Sept. 8. Whoever the HOD elects will begin serving immediately. (
Note: It was previously reported in error that the person elected by the HOD to Dr. Welsh's AMA seat would not begin serving until Jan. 1, 2025.) Physicians may declare their candidacy for the HOD election at any time. Nominations will remain open during Convention weekend.
